ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

In 1997, the cities of Orinda, California, and Tabor, in the Czech Republic, honored the legacy conceived and initiated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, by becoming "Sister Cities." The Sister City program encourages international friendship, communication and understanding between cultures. And since its establishment, the Orinda/Tabor Sister City Foundation, along with Orinda Lions Club and Rotary International, has sent educators to Tabor to teach English, sponsored fellowships for physicians from Tabor, and has sponsored a Czech visiting student at Miramonte High School each fall semester for the past 16 years.

2017: The Year of the Czechs

The Orinda City Council declared 2017 as "The Year of the Czechs" in Orinda, California. With that declaration, the Orinda/Tabor Sister City Foundation is dedicating 2017 to raising awareness and educating the greater San Francisco Bay Area about the significance and impact of the Czech Republic (and specifically Tabor) and its citizens on the world.

The culmination of 2017 will be the highly anticipated 2017 Saint Wenceslaus Czech Festival, the largest festival of its kind taking place in the Western United States. Save the date, the Festival takes place from 9/29 - 10/1 in Orinda, the Czech heart of California!
